This article was quite the wake up call to me, it is quite sad that this kind of situations happen in 2015, especially considering that there is a kid involved in this situation and that I believe that no kids should be raised in a garage. It got me thinking about the limit of supply and demand and the alternatives for customers when the demand is much higher than supply and raises the prices. I also feel that in this situation population growth is a problem
ReplyDeleteShayann,
DeleteI agree that population growth is turning into a problem as housing prices are going through the roof. What alternatives can you think of to solve this problem?
Wow. What a sad story. I agree, that the worst part of it all is the involvement of the child. I also find it troubling that many of the wealthy inhabitants of this area and city planners are proud of the exclusivity high housing prices bring. I wonder if this is slowing reactions to combat the growing problem of homelessness and children hunger in this area? Thanks for sharing this article Emily.
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely a sad story and I believe that it exposes some of our society's current limits. Something needs to be done about this
DeleteThis article was very eye opening. I cannot imagine the median rent in Mobile being that much! My one bedroom apartment is about $850 a month, and I think that is outrageous enough! At the same time, if this woman is single and already has a toddler, why is she pregnant again? I know I don't have all of the facts, so there could be a great explanation. But if she is a single parent, living in a garage, I would hope she would take preventative measures to not put another child in this situation.
ReplyDeleteMary, life does not always go as planned and as you said we probably do not know the whole story but I agree that you do not want to put children in this situation
